Lone Survivor

There are certain things that leave an impact in your life and you remember the details surrounding it.  For me it was June 12, 2007.  I was walking on the treadmill at the gym  (we'll just say I was warming up for my more strenuous workout to follow), while watching the Today Show.  Matt Lauer was interviewing Marcus Luttrell, a former Navy Seal about his book, 'Lone Survivor'.  Before I knew it I had tears in my eyes, as he said to Matt, "I died on that mountain too, sir."
Marcus Luttrell's Interview - 2007

I purchased this book after hearing Luttrell's interview.  As I read it I received a deeper measure of gratitude for the men and women that give their lives for our country.  I remember reading one night, tears streaming down my face as he talked about the loss of his fellow Navy Seals, his friends, his warriors.  I remember having extreme guilt for laying warm in my bed that night, it was hard for me to sleep.

This true story changed my life and gave real meaning to Memorial Day.  I pray we can all be thankful for the wonderful country in which we live and appreciative to those that protect it with their lives.
